Reality doesnt have much to say for itself, quipped one famous comedian, but Its the only place where you can get a good steak. Of course, homage was paid to this line the first Matrix movie, when the bad guy compromised his pals for a juicy steak, even if it was an illusion. When we think of reality, we might consider that it is a fabrication of each individual, a fantasy, a construct. Or, we might think it to be a social collage, something that owes its existence to mutual agreement. If everyone says the sky is blue, then its blue, irrespective of what the field of optics holds. But I think reality is a land where B.S. is happily absent. It is stark, sometimes nasty, but nonetheless, bedrock TRUTH. If thats where the steaks are, fine. If not, we simply must accept that, as well. A few days ago, I forget exactly where I was, or what I was doing, but I admitted to myself that I have been BSing myself about some important business matters. Ive had bold, honest conversations with myself in the past, but frankly, theyre infrequent. Yet I have to say, when they happen, theyre always refreshing. This time, I felt especially proud of myself, because I stripped away illusions, saw things as they are, without adornment, and instead of feeling threatened, I was elated. I could handle reality, I found to my great glee. More than that, I missed it, sorely. By deluding myself, inadvertently I suspended my awareness in a fog, and by relinquishing the artificial, my mental weather cleared, immediately. Serve up some of this reality for yourself and it may not come with a steak, but it will nourish your soul! |
