Changing Door Hardware - Can You Handle it?

Author: Karen Hughes

There are hundreds of thousands of handles out there. Some of them are popular and others not. Because of this you need to realize that you are the one making the decisions. Do not trust a store keeper just because he talks nice and looks good! You are the only one that can properly assess why and if you need a new handle.

It does not matter what type of handle you might need to change or replace. You might need to purchase new chrome door handles, shaved door handles, interior door handles, shower door handles and so on. Take a look at your finances and see how much you can afford to spend on the new model. Ask yourself: Are you looking for quality or design? Do I need anything else? and Do I know how to properly change it? While the first two questions are easy to answer, the last one should be analyzed. If you do not know how to change a handle you might need to call somebody that does or you might just call in a specialist. In most cases you will be able to do it yourself. If you are just changing the handle all you will probably need (for a simple handle) is a screwdriver.

Choosing the best handle does not mean the most resistant one should be bought. This usually refers strictly to a design point of view. Most handles are powerful enough to resist all force applied to them. This is because the main purpose of implementing one in a door was not to look good. Nowadays this esthetical need to look good can even be seen in this situation. Most people change the handles because they do not like how they look!

How to chose the best looking handle? First of all you need to try thinking from an objective point of view. You must not look at what you like but at what would look good inside the house. For example, lets say you like a pink handle while the room is yellow. This combination is not good and will not look good. If you purchase a handle it should match the look and feel of the door and it should be in contrast with room colors. You should take into consideration the material as well. Easy handles will not go well on heavy doors and vice versa. In one case it can be too little to open the door and in the other it might be the cause of breaking the handle.

Handles can be considered the small elements that make a room look good. Although few people actually notice them until the actual touching, they are there and adding esthetic features will only make them have an even stronger impact. If you want to have a perfect house you will also need to analyze the handles and see if they fit or not. If not, change them, if so use them. Changing a handle is one of the easiest jobs in the world today. It is effortless and quick so what's stopping you?
