Resell Rights - Getting Organized

Author: Ken Mathie

So, you're going to get into the resale rights business. Maybe you have seen just the product that you want to sell, or maybe you have decided that you're going to create your own resale rights package. Great! But where do you start? Hopefully after reading this article you'll have a pretty good idea of where to start and a decent foundation when you do.

For starters, you better be prepared to do business on the Internet. This involves a number of things.

If you're going to run a professional business you will need to have a business phone. The last thing you want is your 9 year old answering a sales call for you. If you live alone maybe you can skip this but I still recommend a business phone especially if you have a company name. It always sounds better answering the phone with "XYZ Enterprises, can I help you?" than with "hello?"

Hopefully, you plan on making money as well, lots of it. If you do, you're also going to have expenses to go along with them. Income must be reported and expenses better be reported if you want to have any prayer of getting a break on your taxes. So it would be a good idea to get some software to keep track of income and expenses. This will make tax time go a lot easier.

The next thing you are going to need is a professional email account. So many people use email accounts like Yahoo, Hotmail, etc. These are TERRIBLE! You won't get half your email because of the spam filters put on these. If you want to run a legitimate business you MUST get a professional email account. I am not going to recommend any one in particular because there are many out there. What I do suggest is you get a professional domain and hosting service that will give you an email account WITH your web hosting. This way you will have an email account like JohnDoe@mydomain.com as opposed to JohnDoe2145@yahoo.com. Many companies don't even accept registration with a Yahoo, Hotmail, or other free email account because they know you won't get their emails. So please. If you're going to run a professional service get yourself a professional email account.

If you're going to be emailing to leads you're going to want to get a couple of things. First you'll want a professional bulk e-mailer if you plan on emailing a large number of leads at once. Make sure these are double opt in leads. Don't spam. Spamming will ruin your reputation quicker than you can say "Bob's your uncle." Also, you're going to want to get a professional auto-responder for returning emails to your subscriber base which you will hopefully plan to build.

Finally, you're going to want to make sure that every aspect of the business itself is put in place before you do one day of promotion. That means your sales page and web site must be done. If you are just doing affiliate marketing, that's already been done for you. But if you're going to create a resale rights business from scratch then you have got a lot of work ahead of you. If you're not proficient in web design you're going to need to hire a designer. If you're going to create your own affiliate program you're going to either need to create a script yourself or buy one. Another option is to have a company like ClickBank run it for you.

One of the main reasons any resale rights business fails is because of poor planning and organization. By making a checklist of everything that needs to be done and sticking to it, you give your business the best chance of getting itself off the ground and being successful.
